![]() Since I had to deactivate chat features on my Android Messages app, I can no longer send text messages from my Pixel 3 (since it has no SIM card). The ways Google chose to synchronize messages across devices are very questionable tho. I can now use the with my Google Fi number with the SIM card being registered on my iPhone, even if the iPhone is switched off (and I could even get rid of my Pixel 3). Old text messages started populating the web interface and I am able to check my voice mail and initiate calls via my Google Fi number from the web browser. On the Pixel 3 in the Messages app I activated the Google Fi Web synchronization. I also activated iMessage just for fun which is basically the same thing as Google's RCS Chat Features. Some messages did not end up on the iPhone until I deactivated Chat Features on the old Pixel, which does make sense. ![]() Does decipher text message work on android pro#New iPhone 12 Pro with Google Fi app, fully activated and with all the necessary settings to receive text messages on this phone. Phone does not receive any text messages anymore after I deactivated Chat Features in the Messages app. Old Pixel 3 with no SIM card, deleted eSIM, installed Google Fi app but with warning message "Google Fi not fully activated". After all, text messages arrive on Google's servers, are stored there for the web app, and forwarded to your phone as normal text message. But if I don't have (or don't want) any text messages to back up, the feature could simply be switched on server side without the need of any specialized apps or OS lockouts. Sure, if I have an old phone with text messages that I want to back up to the Google servers during synchronization, I need to do that from the old text message app. However: the fact that the new "Sync messages with Google Messages" Fi feature needs to be activated from the Android Messages app - and not through a Google Fi web interface or from within the Google Fi app - is just stupid. Finally my phone does not switch to Sprint automatically anymore - my Pixel 3 did this all the time and data speeds dropped down to zero with no way to prevent the switch / select a preferred network. The "Fi does not support 5G on iPhone and we don't care" shit aside, Google Fi is not well integrated with iPhones in general. I recently switched from a Pixel 3 to an iPhone 12 Pro. but it needs to be activated through Android.
